Soprano Martha Cluver has been hailed by the New York Times for her “soulful” and “fluid, dark-hued” voice. After graduating from Eastman School of Music in 2003 with a degree in viola performance, Martha moved to New York City to pursue a career as a vocalist. Since then she has performed with many re-nowned groups, focusing mainly on early and new music. Martha has premiered many new works by such composers as John Zorn, Caleb Burhans, Emmanuel Nunes and Brad Lubman. Noted solo performances include Morton Feldman’s Neither, where she performed with the Janacek Philharmonic during the Ostrava Days Festival in the summer of 2007. In 2009, Martha premiered Emmanuel Nunes’ opera La Douce with the Remix Ensemble (Portugal). She performs regularly with the Trinity Church Wall Street Choir, Antioch Chamber Ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, Voices of Ascension, and Signal. Martha has performed and recorded many works by Steve Reich, including the premiere of the revised chamber version of The Desert Music with Alarm Will Sound. Her discography includes Sweet Spot DVD, Cantaloupe, Tzadik, Nonesuch, and Naxos. Martha currently resides in New York City with her husband and fellow musician Caleb Burhans.
